Letter from the President Since 1980 the Mitchell Group has specialized in the executive recruitment of Life, Health and Pension actuaries, benefit consultants and compensation consultants for national, regional and local consulting and insurance companies. The key to our solid record of placements during the past quarter century is our determination to match the needs and desires of the employer with the needs and desires of the candidate. To this end it is often necessary for us to provide counseling services to the candidate, an activity to which I am well suited by my education (a Masters in Guidance and Counseling) and my prior work experience in education. When counseling, I always emphasize the following two key factors: (1) the importance of career independence, and (2) the recognition that one's happiness (and consequently one quality of life), is maximized when one does what one likes to do. I speak from personal experience as I have the good fortune to do for a living what I like to do: help people improve their careers and lives. As a regular attendee of the meetings of the Society of Actuaries, the American Academy of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, etc., I keep up-to-date on what's happening in the industry. This also gives me a chance to visit with the many friends I've made over the years, and, best of all, offers me the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
